Danny Boyle Is Finished With Franchises After James Bond 25 Drama

Director Danny Boyle is making it clear he won’t get himself involved with another franchise after his exit from the upcoming James Bond 25.

After franchise veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade penned the script for the 25th installment James Bond installment, the duo’s screenplay was shelved in favor of a new script developed by Danny Boyle and John Hodge with the former attached to direct. However, Danny Boyle ultimately dropped out of the project due to creative differences with the film’s producers. True Detective and Maniac director Cary Joji Fukunaga was ushered in replace Danny Boyle just one month later. Reports suggested Danny Boyle’s main issue was that he did not want to kill off 007 in what will be Daniel Craig’s final outing as the iconic British spy.

Speaking with Metro, Danny Boyle was asked about his exit from James Bond 25 when he admitted that he’s not suited to helm major franchise films:

“I learned my lesson that I am not cut out [for franchises] otherwise you’re digging in the same hole. I am better not quite in the mainstream franchise movies, is the honest answer.”

Production on James Bond 25 is set to resume with Daniel Craig next week following the actor sustaining a leg injury on set of the project. Daniel Craig required minor surgery, temporarily suspending production as he recovers.

A member of the crew was also injured after a controlled explosion caused damage to the exterior of the Bond 25 stage earlier this month.

Bond 25 is set to be Daniel Craig’s final appearance as James Bond after having played the character since 2006’s Casino Royale.

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.  His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a script written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the 25th James Bond stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Ben Whishaw and Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek.

James Bond 25 is scheduled to be released in theaters on 8, April 2020.
