Dark Phoenix Helmer Wants Tom Hardy Or Richard Madden For Wolverine
During an interview with GamesRadar, Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg revealed Tom Hardy and Richard Madden would be his top picks for the role of Wolverine.
With Hugh Jackman now retired from the role after Logan and Marvel Studios set to reboot the X-Men film series following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, fans are curious to know who will take on the role of Wolverine in the future. While the cast of Dark Phoenix had a number of different suggestions, director Simon Kinberg revealed Game of Thrones alumn Richard Madden and Venom star Tom Hardy would be interesting choices to play Wolverine:
“It’s a very hard question to answer, because there are only a few actors in the history of comic book movies who are so indelibly connected to their character, that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the role. I can’t imagine anybody but Hugh Jackman playing it… but if I think about actors who are just really interesting, and that I’d love to work with, Tom Hardy comes to mind; Richard Madden I think is a great actor.”
However, Simon Kinberg noted he believes it would be to best to cast an unknown as opposed to a well-known actor like Tom Hardy or Richard Madden:
“One of the things that was so great about Hugh is that he was an unknown actor. He was a musical theatre actor from Australia that no one really knew. So I think if ever there was going to be a new Wolverine, I think the best place to look would be to discover somebody new.”
Do you think Richard Madden or Tom Hardy would be good choices for Wolverine? Should an unknown take on the role instead? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019.
