Deadpool 2 Director Would Love To Work On Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch expressed his willingness to return to the Matrix franchise with the fourth film starring Keanu Reeves.

Long before helming Deadpool 2, David Leitch worked as a member of the stunt team on Keanu Reeves’ Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions. Since then, David Leitch has become an accomplished director in his own right but expressed a willingness to return to his roots in Keanu Reeves’ new Matrix film during an interview with ComingSoon.

Development of a fourth Matrix film with director Lana Wachowski and actor Keanu Reeves is currently underway, a project Deadpool 2 director David Leitch said he’s love to work on in any capacity if asked. Furthermore, the Deadpool director credited the Wachowski’s as his being mentors during their time working together on The Matrix sequels and additional projects:

“If Lana called and wanted me to do anything on that movie, I would come, I’d carry a c-stand or sandbags. I loved working with her and I loved working with her sister and I feel like I owe so much of my filmmaking background to working on not only the Matrix movies, but also Speed Racer, Ninja Assassin. They were great mentors to me, so if they call I’ll be there. Catering [even]!”

Of course, David Leitch’s availability may depend on what Marvel Studios has planned for the Deadpool franchise. Deadpool’s cinematic future remains unclear for the time being following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. However, Ryan Reynolds recently teased a meeting with Marvel Studios, suggesting both parties are discussing potential plans for future Deadpool films.

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the Matrix film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick was recently reported to be in talks for a lead role. Production on Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4 is reportedly eyeing an early 2020 start date with Lana Wachowski also serving as a producer alongside Grant Hill.
