First Look At Ming-Na Wen’s ‘Star Wars’ Character
A new image from The Mandalorian offers fans a first look at Ming-Na Wen’s Star Wars character Fennec Shand.
While Disney is keeping the secrets of its first live-action Star Wars series under wraps, fans have finally learnt who Ming-Na Wen is playing in The Mandalorian. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star is joining Pedro Pascal in the Star Wars universe as a resilient assassin who is tricky to pin down. Ming-Na Wen spoke to Vanity Fair about portraying this brand new character in the Star Wars universe, explaining that it’s been fun creating the assassin for The Mandalorian.
During her interview with Vanity Fair, Ming-Na Wen revealed that her character’s name in The Mandalorian is Fennec Shand. The Star Wars series actress explained that the inspiration for her name came from the Fennec Fox, a real-life animal. The article also reveals that Ming-Na Wen’s character gained notoriety as an assassin for the biggest crime syndicates in the Star Wars universe. “We got our inspiration really from the name. The idea of a fennec fox came to mind. She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name. I think she has a good sense of humor about it all as well, which is also fun. You can’t really pinpoint which direction she’s going to go.”

Here is the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
The Mandalorian will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on November 12, 2019.
