Iron Man Writers Share Thoughts On Tony Stark's Avengers: Endgame Fate
During an interview with IGN, Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway shared their thoughts in how Avengers: Endgame concluded the story arc of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.
Over ten years after the first Iron Man film launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the journey of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark came to an end when the once selfish hero nobly sacrificed himself by using to Infinity Stones to vanquish Thanos and his forces. While many fans were saddened by the bittersweet ending to Tony Stark’s decade-long arc, most agreed it was a fitting conclusion to the character’s story and Iron Man co-writer Art Marcum appears to agree with them, telling IGN, “It’s sad, but it had to be that way.”
Of course, Art Marcum added that they never planned for Tony Stark’s story to conclude with his demise when they penned the screenplay for Robert Downey Jr.’s first Iron Man film:
“When we were all coming up with the first movie with Jon Favreau and Kevin Feige, we were just hoping, ‘God, I hope this movie works.’ We weren’t thinking about ten years and however many dozens of sequels there’s been. Really, you look back at that and you’re happy that everybody has seen so many movies and have fallen in love with all these different characters that sprang from the MCU.”

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
