James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ Film Expected To Be Rated R
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is reportedly expected to be given an R rating.
After Suicide Squad debuted to box office success but mixed reactions from movigoers, Warner Bros. and DC opted to move in a new direction with the supervillain and enlisted James Gunn to helm the next film. Of course, little is known about James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad at this point, aside from the cast list and the fact that is said to have a comedic tone.
Now, Variety reports that insiders are predicting James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be rated R. If this turns out to be the case, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad would join Todd Phillips’ Joker as one of the few DC films to be R-rated, with Birds of Prey also expected to get the same rating as well.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the Suicide Squad in his upcoming movie.
Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film is said to center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
