‘Justice League’ Theatrical Cut Made Zack Snyder’s Cinematographer Cry

Zack Snyder’s Justice League cinematographer Fabian Wagner said he cried seeing the the film’s theatrical cut.

More fuel has been added to the fire behind the Snyder Cut of Justice League, as the cinematographer who originally worked on the film before Joss Whedon stepped in mentioned that he cried when seeing the final version that made it into theaters. Fans have been lobbying to see Zack Snyder’s original vision for the Justice League since it was released in 2017, and it’s apparent that the story wasn’t the only thing that was changed once the director stepped away from production. Before explaining how upset he was at the theatrical Justice League cut, Fabian Wagner said that the last time he saw footage was when Zack Snyder was colour grading the trailers.

In the interview with Comic Book Debate, Wagner also explained that he was working on another project when Joss Whedon came onboard to finish Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and wasn’t able to return. Wagner also discussed how much shooting Justice League with Zack Snyder meant to him, specifically the resurrection of Superman, as he was a big Superman fan growing up. His personal love of these characters makes it even more disappointing that he was let down by the theatrical cut of Justice League.

“It’s really hard to say because I was watching it and I think I was crying all the way through. So it’s hard for me to say exactly how much was changed, but a lot was changed. It looked very different. It’s sad for me because I loved working with Zack, I had the best time of my life. There were many other things on that movie that made it so good apart from the fact that I was working with Zack and the whole gang. I met my wife on that job. It was just a great shoot, and so it was a shame to see the film the way it turned out to be. You can just see, if you watched the first trailers you can see how the film should have looked and how the film did look when we were shooting it”
