Kevin Feige Addresses Those Killmonger Rumors
Ryan Coogler is set to return to Wakanda with Marvel Studios for Black Panther 2. With him set to tell another story about King T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and his place in the world following the events of Avengers: Endgame, many fans are curious to see if his frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan will reprise his role as Killmonger following his critically-acclaimed performance in the first film. Rumors recently spread that Killmonger would return, and Kevin Feige has now addressed such rumors.
In an interview with BET, Kevin Feige gave no concrete answer as to whether or not Killmonger would make his return in Black Panther 2, expressing that everything is just a “pure rumor” at this point:
“The honest answer to that is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie. It’s early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks.”
In Black Panther, Killmonger decides to kill himself following his defeat against his cousin, T’Challa, despite his requests to get him cured of his wounds. Killmonger refused T’Challa’s requests, stating that they should bury his body in the ocean, comparing him to his African ancestors that jumped off slave ships, “Because they knew death was better than bondage.”
Michael B. Jordan has collaborated with Ryan Coogler on every single one of his films, from Fruitvale Station to Black Panther. It’s only a matter of time before Kevin Feige and company reveal whether or not Killmonger will return for Black Panther 2.
