Marvel Sued For Stealing Animated ‘X-Men’ Theme From Hungarian Series
Marvel is being sued for allegedly stealing the theme of a police show from Hungry for the intro music of the X-Men animated series.
Marvel’s X-Men animated series ran from 1992 t0 1997 on Fox Kids Network and became the definitive incarnation of the mutant team for a generation of fans. Equally as popular was the X-Men animated series theme song, which remains a popular tune for Marvel fans who grew up watching the show.
However, a man named Zolton Krisko is now suing Marvel and more media companies for allegedly stealing the X-Men theme from a Hungarian police show called Linda that aired in the country from 1984 to 1991. Krisko, who managed the estate of Hungarian composer Gyorgy Vukan, who created and copyrighted the Linda theme in 1983, claims in the suit that the score composer for Marvel’s X-Men series and TV executives met with Hungarian film professionals in the ’80s. According to Krisko, the popularity of Linda at the time means to the X-Men team would have definitely known about the cop series.
