New BTS Photo From Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Teases Catwoman
An interesting new behind-the-scenes photo from Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker shows off a surprisingly twisted reference to Catwoman.
While Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is still proving to be a box office hit, Todd Phillips recently revealed some interesting photos from behind-the-scenes of the supervillain solo film. One image seemingly teases another of Batman’s iconic adversaries — Catwoman. The photos posted by the Joker director show off Joaquin Phoenix’s intimidating villain from across the film, as well as some of the supporting cast. But the picture of the Joker’s notebook includes the sneaky reference to Selina Kyle’s Catwoman.
While the photo shows the page covered in the word “step,” the only thing that comes to mind here are the iconic stairs that Joker dances on once Joaquin Phoenix’s villain finally embraces his true self. But the weird image that he’s created on the page references Selina Kyle’s Catwoman. The bizarre drawing shows off a half-cat-half-woman wielding some kind of weapon. It almost resembles the whip Selina Kyle’s Catwoman carries with her. Does this mean Catwoman exists somewhere in Jokers world? Or is it just the scribblings of an unhinged villain? Take a look at the reference to Catwoman in Joker below.

Some more random BTS pics from the movie. This first one was from our makeup test before we started shooting. I have LOTS more and will post soon as people seem to be digging them. #Joker is everywhere. (Again, thanks for ALL the messages. Very touching). All @nikotavernise.

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:
Director Todd Phillips’ Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. The movie is not part of the DC Extended Universe, and seems to play into Warner Bros.’s interests of making creator-driven superhero movies over necessarily building a hyper-connected shared universe… At least for the time being.
Joker is now playing in theaters. Stay tuned for the latest news on the Joaquin Phoenix movie!
