Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron Take on Fox News in Bombshell Movie Trailer – Adweek
Just a few months after Hollywood first tackled former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and the sexual harassment allegations that led to his downfall, another project is playing out the controversy on the big screen.
The upcoming movie Bombshell, which centers on the sexual harassment allegations made against Ailes by several female employees, dropped a new trailer featuring former Fox News employees Gretchen Carlson (played by Nicole Kidman) and Megyn Kelly (played by Charlize Theron) and the happenings that led to Fox News’ #MeToo moment.
In the trailer, Kidman’s Carlson says “Someone has to speak up. Someone has to get mad,” before filing a harassment lawsuit against Ailes. Meanwhile, Theron’s Kelly is shocked to find herself in President Donald Trump’s crosshairs—“Did he just accuse me of anger menstruating?”—while navigating her own issues with harassment and the company.
And Robbie’s Kayla, the composite character, has an uncomfortable meeting with Ailes (played by John Lithgow), who offers to put her on TV—with some major strings attached: “I could pluck you out and move you to the front of the line, but I need to know you’re loyal. I need you to find a way to prove it.”
The trailer shows Kidman superimposed into what appears to be actual Fox & Friends footage alongside the show’s co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade.
Bombshell, which comes out Dec. 20, is the second Hollywood project this year to spotlight Fox News’ #MeToo moment, which led to Ailes’ exit from the company in 2016 (he died in May 2017).
The Showtime miniseries The Loudest Voice, which aired this summer, looked at the rise of Fox News and starred Russell Crowe as Ailes and Naomi Watts as Carlson. Megyn Kelly, however, did not appear as a character in that program.
