Ryan Coogler Just Starting On Chadwick Boseman’s ‘Black Panther 2’
While the movie is still two years and several months away, Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther sequel is still having its story figured out.
Talking to The Wall Street Journal, Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that work on Black Panther sequel is underway, but as of right now, Ryan Coogler is “just beginning the process of outlining the story”. Such statements are consistent with what Kevin Feige has said as recently as Disney D23 a few weeks ago, when he explained that the Chadwick Boseman sequel has had an outline written. Bob Iger personally championed for the Black Panther IP in spite of apprehension from Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter, a move that paid off with Chadwick Boseman and Ryan Coogler delivering a movie that made well over a billion dollars.
Marvel are rumored to be holding a creative summit soon, so it’s likely that Black Panther sequel will have a clearer direction before the end of the year. Even still, Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman have plenty of time to figure things out before the cameras need to start rolling in 2021.
So far, Chadwick Boseman has portrayed the Black Panther three times in movies directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame), and once by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther). Of those films, Chadwick Boseman was the lead in one, a major supporting actor in another, and a minor supporting actor in the last two.
Here is a plot synopsis for Black Panther:
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther‘ follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.
