With Hugh Jackman now retired from the role of Wolverine and the X-Men under the control of Marvel Studios, fans are proposing potential actors to portray the mutants in the MCU. While fans have thrown out several names for the role of Wolverine, Venom star Tom Hardy is one of the more frequently mentioned fan picks to replace Hugh Jackman.
To give fans an idea of what Tom Hardy would look like as Wolverine, digital artist The Main Creation crafted artwork depicting the Venom star was Hugh Jackman’s successor in the X-Men role. The image depicts Venom star Tom Hardy with the same hairstyle as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and the classic retractable claws.

Marvel Studios, which now holds the film rights to Wolverine and the X-Men following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets, confirmed plans to include mutants in the MCU during its 2019 San Diego Comic-Con presentation. However, the studio is reportedly in no rush to introduce the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning it will likely be some time before we learn who will replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Venom in Sony’s upcoming sequel to the original film. Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, Venom 2 also stars Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Woody Harrelson as Carnage. It is widely believed that Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 is the untitled Marvel project Sony has slated for release on October 2, 2020.
